The Care Ritual
6 min read18K gold plating is a fine layer of gold bonded to a durable base metal. It is beautiful and wearable — and, like silk or leather, it rewards a little care. Friction, moisture and chemicals are what slowly soften the shine. These are the habits our atelier swears by.
Last on, first off
- 1.Apply perfume, oud oils, body lotion, sunscreen and makeup first — then wait five minutes before putting on your jewellery.
- 2.Spray fragrance on clothing or behind the ears, away from necklaces and earrings.
- 3.Take pieces off first when you come home, before changing or washing.
Keep it dry
- 1.Remove before showering, swimming (pool or sea), the gym, sauna or hammam.
- 2.Take off rings and bracelets before wudu if you prefer to keep them dry, and pat dry if they get wet.
- 3.In humid summer months, wipe pieces after wearing to remove sweat and salt.
Clean gently
- 1.After each wear, wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
- 2.Once a month: lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, a soft brush for stones, then pat completely dry.
- 3.Never use toothpaste, baking soda, silver dip, polishing cloths or ultrasonic cleaners — they strip the plating.
Store it right
- 1.Keep each piece separately in its emerald box or a soft pouch so pieces don’t scratch each other.
- 2.Avoid bathrooms and car glove boxes — heat and humidity speed up tarnish.
- 3.Lay chains flat or fasten the clasp before storing to prevent knots.
Rotate your favourites
A ring worn every day meets door handles, bags and steering wheels constantly. Rotating between two or three pieces spreads the wear and keeps every piece looking new for longer.
Gentle on rings
Rings take the most friction. Remove them for cleaning, cooking with lemon or spices, gardening and lifting weights — and never pull them over a swollen knuckle.
What’s natural
A slight softening of shine after long wear is natural for plated jewellery. If a piece looks tired, message our WhatsApp concierge — we’ll advise on care and your warranty options.
